The Vision:
The vision which informs all aspects of Seasons of the Spirit is to “provide God’s people with resources that empower all ages to be transformed in Christ”.
Building on that cornerstone, this unique family of resources is grounded and shaped in the ecumenical, global and inclusive heart of the church. Seasons supports local churches in the vital work of faith development through an integrated approach to three vital ministries: education, worship, and mission/service – and provides a Bible-based bridge between them. All resources are based on the rhythm of the Christ life as seen in the Christian year and Revised Common Lectionary.
The Seasons resources:
Resources for the three ministries of education, worship and mission, and for all ages (babies through adults), are available for 12 months of the year. For ease of use and maximum flexibility for congregations Seasons is written and produced annually in four seasonal cycles: Advent/Christmas/Epiphany, Lent/Easter, Pentecost 1 and Pentecost 2. While some congregations may order seasons-by-season, most will continue in their annual buying cycle and “order once, receive twice (two shipments per year), and for use in four seasonal cycles”.
The Christian Community’s participation:
Tested by over 200 churches, the needs of large and small, urban and rural churches have shaped the Seasons project.
Learner’s Activity Sheets are reproducible – saving money and waste. Excellent support is provided for leaders in all three ministries (education, worship, and mission/service). Weekly Bible readings are connected with current world events through the use of the Internet. Email and Internet make support and idea-sharing almost immediate.
Throughout the program the arts play a key role as do the sciences, new technologies, current events and stories from around the world. Questioning, imagination and experience are valued as opportunities to encounter God. Every year, Seasons of the Spirit is shaped by Seasons International Bible Study sessions happening in churches around the world. This brings the insights, ideas and issues facing congregations in your denomination to the shaping of Seasons of the Spirit. Seasons International Bible Studies put the Bible squarely at the centre of the yearly development of Seasons.
