Trainers

Every presbytery has been asked to select suitable people to be trained as trainers. These trainers will in turn go to willing congregations and small groups to facilitate one of the available workshops.

The emphasis in training is in empowermentm affirming diverse giftings and taking practical action in taking the Faith ALIVE Journey.

If you would like to nominate to be a Trainer please make contact with the Project Coordinator.

A lot of trust is being invested in the maturity of any selected trainer.

In particular, presbytery trainers should …

  1. be experienced and able to lead or facilitate a group, as appropriate
  2. be able to direct discussion by using whiteboard-type methods
  3. have, in the eyes of their community, a passion for Jesus and for the lost
  4. love the church
  5. be able to relate to people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

They may not be erudite, theologically trained, politically correct, or terribly nice all the time. They may even be on ‘the fringe’ of the church and in touch with non-Christian friendship.

Presbytery may look at an equal balance of lay and ordained, men and women, but this can be too constricting in practice.

It is suggested the presbytery executive or Pastoral Relations Committee accept the responsibility of inviting particular individuals, since it is a selection process not a volunteering procedure that is required.

If this is seen as strategic and important to the future of the church, presbytery can ask for priority of time and attention to be directed here, with some other business slowed down.
